I just wanted to take a quick minute to talk briefly about SAS. Now I don’t mean the Special Forces unit in the British army here, although that might be more interesting to write about! I’m referring to the statistical software which has grown to become the industry standard for analytical professionals everywhere.
SAS stands for Statistical Analysis System and is a software suite developed by SAS Institute for advanced analytics. Continue reading “Introduction to SAS”

So here is just a quick tip to get us started.
Let’s say you have an Excel document which you create regularly and that requires a cover sheet to be used which we want in the same format in each instance. This could be an information sheet or an about page for example. Instead of having to create this from scratch every time, we could create one version of this and save it as a template.
Firstly, in a blank spreadsheet in a new workbook, create the information headers for the data you want to capture each time. You can also delete the unused tabs and name the tab you’re working on appropriately. Continue reading “Excel Tip #1 – Creating Your Own Template in Excel”
So what is outsourcing exactly? Well outsourcing is defined as the tactical utilisation of external entities to carry out tasks usually completed by internal personnel and resources. This differs from insourcing, in which work that would have normally been completed in-house, is for whatever reason, contracted out instead.
Although most likely employed by businesses, outsourcing is often utilised by individuals too. Websites such as www.guru.com and www.freelancer.co.uk are essentially outsourcing websites, and are frequented by both companies and individuals advertising projects and one off tasks to the online freelancing community. I would like to take a few minutes to discuss the core values of the company, why I think they are essential, what each of them mean to me, why I chose them and why they are significant for the business and indeed our customers.
Our company core values are important to us because they drive all of our business decisions, and underpin the basic philosophy of the company.
Although often neglected by small business owners, I believe in the importance of core values because they help to define the beliefs of the business, support the underlying vision, as well as helping to mould company culture and ways of both thinking and behaving. I started Smart Corporate Outsource Solutions while living in China in 2012. At the time I was working as an Operations Analyst – among other roles, for a startup company in the centre of Beijing. The company’s remit was to help Chinese students with their overseas university applications by providing advice and counseling, as well as assisting with all paperwork and administration.
As Operations Analyst I was tasked with creating a Performance Measurement Management system to track accountabilities across all departments, as well as analysing company metrics for forecasting and for recommending options for future business strategy. Due to the size of the company at the time, I was also expected to work across multiple disciplines including IT, Accounting and Finance, as well as in Customer Relations. It was in these areas that I began to realise the possibility of compartmentalising small specific work related tasks, which could then be outsourced to individuals with the relevant expertise for a one-off fee.
